Beef Stroganoff Sandwich

Thanks to my sis for this one!  My family eats. it. up!

2 lbs ground beef
1/2 c chopped onion
1 t salt
1/2 t garlic powder
1/2 t pepper
1 loaf French bread
2 c sour cream
2 tomatoes, diced
3 c shredded cheddar cheese

Brown beef and onion. Drain excess grease. Add salt, garlic powder and pepper. Cut bread lengthwise, in half. Butter both halves and place on a baking sheet. Remove beef mixture from the heat. Stir in sour cream. Spoon onto the bread. Sprinkle with tomatoes and cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, or until cheese is melted. (Bake longer for crispier bread.) Makes 8 - 10 servings. Great served with salad!
